Water information can be extracted and transferred from the Rubicon database using either the WaterML standard, or the WDTF standard for water data.

- The [WaterML Datasets Module](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WDNC/pages/2053800149) is where you can define WaterML compatible datasets and create and schedule extracts from datasets for the transfer of water data.
- The [WDTF Datasets Module](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WDNC/pages/2053800164) is where you can define WDTF compatible datasets for the transfer of water data to meet the requirements of the Australian Bureau of Meterology (BOM).

The Credentials, Extracts and Observation Types modules also support the transfer of data and metadata in these formats.

- The [Credentials Module](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WDNC/pages/2054029562) stores authorisation details for connecting to the destination servers.
- The [Extracts Module](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WDNC/pages/2053800134) stores a record of transferred data together with details of the transfer status.
- The [Observation Types module](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/WDNC/pages/2053439917) stores a list of any observations that are configured for water data transfer.

## WaterML

WaterML is an international standard for the representation of hydrological data. See [OGC WaterML](http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/waterml) for details of the WaterML standard.

## Water Data Transfer Format (WDTF)

This standard is used for transfer of data to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

The [Australian Water Act 2007](http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Series/C2007A00137) and [Water Regulations 2008](http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Series/F2008L02170) require that specified organisations provide water data and associate metadata for inclusion in the Australian Water Resources Information System (AWRIS). The type of data required is defined in a set of categories and sub-categories published in the regulations.

See [Improving Water Information](http://www.bom.gov.au/water/index.shtml) on the BOM website for more details.
