**Step 1**

Click **Roles** to open the Roles module.

**Step 2**

Click **Add New role** to create a new role.

**Step 3**

Enter a name for the role in the **Description **field.

**Step 4**

If sub-role privileges will apply to this role, enable the appropriate privilege checks on the **Details** tab. Enabling a sub-role privilege check means that specific roles can be configured to have the ability to make changes to the party record of a user with this role.

> ℹ️ **Example**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Enable the *Include in Reset Password privilege check* if you want to be able to use sub-role privileges to control who can reset the password of users with this role.

**Step 5**

Depending on your local configuration, there may be checkboxes displayed on the **Details** tab for the applications that you have installed. Select one or more of these checkboxes to immediately add an authority for those applications to the role for ALL PARTIES.

## What next?

To allow users to log in with the role and use features of the system you can now:

- [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/UMNC/pages/1983774748](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/UMNC/pages/1983774748). These define the objects to which the role provides access. If you have [created sub-role](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/UMNC/pages/1983643715/Inherited+Authorities+and+Sub-Roles#Add-a-Child-Sub-Role-to-a-Parent-Role)s, your role will already have all the authorities of the sub-role.
- Configure sub-role privileges that this role has over other roles. See [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/UMNC/pages/1983905830](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/UMNC/pages/1983905830)
