A party represents all users, operators and customers who interact with the system. Party details are used to control access to the application, to record ownership of assets or other objects, to store contact details for messages and notifications, and to track usage.

# Party Types

When you create a party you must specify what type of party you want to create. The available types are:

## Individual

An individual is a single person. Individuals can include members of your staff who need to log into and use the system, parties who may need to place orders or for whom invoices are generated, and anyone else whose name and contact details you need to store.

## Group

A group is a collection of other parties who are members of the group. You create a group when you need to send a notification or message to every member of the group, or to a designated active member of the group. Groups may also be used for mapping to Active Directory groups if you are using Active Directory authentication.

> ℹ️ **Example**
> ℹ️ A DUTY OFFICER group may include all the individuals on a duty roster who can receive alarm notifications for an area. The officer who is currently on duty is the active member.

## Legal entity

A legal entity is an organization or body that may have a role in the system, for example, to hold shares or leases. This type is not available unless it is required for your region.
