# Creating an Order

When an irrigator places an order in either the Irrigator Portal or in CustomerConnect that will be affected by rationing, they will be alerted if their order will be affected by any configured ration periods.

In CustomerConnect, customers in an area with an active ration period will be able to see the details of the ration period, the volume available for the period (ie the delivery share times the duration), and the remaining volume available for their outlet.

For grouped delivery shares the volume for the period will be for the whole group.

- If the finish time of their order has to be shortened in duration to satisfy the rationing requirements, they will be notified of the change.
- If the system is not configured suitably for rationing (for example, if their service point is not part of a delivery share) they will be advised that their order can't be supplied during a rationing period.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You cannot place repeating orders in a ration period.

# Changing an Order

- Whether or not irrigators can change orders that fall in a ration period depends on how you have configured these restrictions (see [Enabling or Disabling Order Changes](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/PNC/pages/2053439583/Configuring+the+System+for+Rationing#Enabling-or-Disabling-Order-Changes) for details). Any restrictions apply to all orders within a ration period whether or not the order was affected by rationing.
- Any change an *unrationed* order so that it DOES become subject to rationing (for example, by changing the start or finish time so that it overlaps a ration period) will mean that the usual rationing restrictions will be applied to the order, and it will become rationed. The irrigator will be prompted as usual if the order will be rationed or if it cannot be supplied because of the rationing restrictions.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ - Any changes to an already rationed order will not change its rationed status.
> ℹ️ - Any change to an unrationed order that doesn’t subject it to rationing will not change its unrationed status.
