Auto linking is an option for manual planning. When you choose auto linking, DMS calculates the best set of links to meet your auto linking criteria, then automatically creates the links for you.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Auto linking does not create regulator links. You will still need to create these manually.

Auto linking is simpler than manual linking, but also less flexible, because the linking is controlled by the parameters and cannot be modified to allow for other business priorities such as customer preferences.

**To auto link a plan:**

**Step 1**

In the Planning Schematic, choose **Plan > Auto Link** from the main menu.

**Step 2**

Enter the following details:

| **Property** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Bring forward events first | If orders must be rescheduled, give priority to moving orders earlier rather than later. |
| Cascade | If the start time of an order is changed to create a link, change any already-linked orders to maintain their link relationships. |
| On plan date only | Create links only on the plan day. |
| Same outlet first | Choose this option to prioritise linking to orders at the same outlet, but for different properties. This may be useful if you have outlets that are shared with many properties. |
| Pool range increment | The auto linking process starts by linking orders within individual pools, then extends downstream to look for suitable links in surrounding pools. This parameter determines how far afield the auto linker looks in each iteration of the calculations.<br>Lower settings will encourage the auto linker to link closer orders before looking further afield. |
| Maximum pool range | This sets a limit on how far afield orders can be linked. Set the value lower if you prefer closer linking. |
| Maximum time shift (hrs) | Maximum amount of time by which an order can be rescheduled. |
| Flow link bias % | If the difference between the flow rates for an end event and a start event is more than this percentage, then the events will not be linked. The purpose of this parameter is to prioritise linking between orders with similar flow rates. |

**Step 3**

Click **OK** to save your changes and begin the auto linking process.

## Viewing auto links

You can view the links that the autolinker has created on the Planning Schematic and in the Event Viewer.

1. In the Planning Schematic, choose **Event > Manual Events > By Plan** from the main menu. The Event Viewer opens with any unlinked events displayed.
2. In the Event Viewer, choose **View > Auto Linked** to show any autolinked events.
