Some metered outlets can be remotely read as soon as the order is complete. Other outlets, particularly shared outlets, may need to be read manually by operators or field officers. The meter reading behaviour is controlled by the **Disable Auto Meter Reading** outlet attribute.

The *Disable Auto Meter Reading* attribute determines whether DMS attempts to read the outlet meter:

| **Value** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| No | DMS automatically reads the meter when the order finishes (that is, when the flow returns to zero). This is the default setting and will also apply if the attribute is not set.<br>> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Automatic meter reading is only available at outlets where **TCC mode** is *Partial* or *Yes*. |
| Yes | DMS does not attempt to read the meter.<br>- If the outlet meter can be read remotely, you can import remote meter readings in the <u>[Meter Reading Entry Module](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MNC/pages/2010710149)</u>
- If the meter must be read manually, the reading may be provided by customers using IVR, web or mobile tools, or you may use your own field staff to collect meter readings. |
