# Storage

The following guidelines will help your batteries remain in good condition and prolong their life expectancy when not in use.

- Store batteries in a cool and dry location (25°C/77°F < 50% RH), protected from the elements to prolong battery life.
- Keep batteries and battery packs away from strong oxidizers and acids.
- Disconnect batteries from equipment to eliminate parasitic loads that may discharge the battery pack.
- Prior to long-term storage of the battery pack (>6 months), charge the battery pack to at least 30% state-of-charge.
  - Storing a heavily discharged battery pack can result in permanent damage and decreased capacity.
- To prolong battery life and performance a cycle recharge of the battery pack is recommended after 1 year in storage.
  - If storing the battery below 0°C/32°F or above 30°C/86°F monthly cycle recharging is recommended
- Do not store tall batteries vertically outside Pedestal.
- Do not store more than the quantity of batteries allowed on the site according to local regulations and any applicable permits.

# Handling

- Only lift battery packs using the handle provided. Never lift the battery via the terminals or looms.
- Some variants of Rubicon Lithium batteries weigh in excess of 30Kg, it is recommended to take care lifting and use two persons when nessasary
- Due to Pedestal requirements some Rubicon batteries are tall and thin, it is recommended to lay these down when not installed.

# Transportation

Rubicon Lithium Batteries are considered Class 9 dangerous goods therefore care must be taken when packaging and transporting.

- All Rubicon LiFePO4 batteries have been tested and pass according to UN Handbook of Tests and Criteria, part III, sub-section 38.3.
- For transport, the batteries belong to the category UN3480, Class 9, Packaging Group II and have to be transported according to this regulation.
  - For land and sea transport (ADR, RID & IMDG) they are required to be be packed according to packaging instruction P903
  - For air transport (IATA) they are required to be be packed according to packaging instruction P965.
