# Creating Tables and Tags by Copying and Pasting

You can quickly create tags, tables and RTUs by copying and pasting from similar items. Reconfigure any [links to sites](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DCNC/pages/2048753679) after a tag has been created.

# Create a New Tag

**Step 1**

In the Data Sources module, select the RTU where the tag will be stored.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ You can navigate the Data Sources module, which is organized by collection system and RTU, or you can search by entering an object name in the Search String field. The list of objects is filtered as you enter the search string.

**Step 2**

Select the table where the tag will be added. For calculated tags, this will be the SYSTEM table.

**Step 3**

Locate an empty cell for the new tag You must select a column with the same data type as the tag.

**Step 4**

Double-click in the cell to open the New Tag screen.

**Step 5**

On the** General **tab, complete the following details:

| **Pr**operty | Description |
| --- | --- |
| Description | A meaningful name for the tag. This is displayed in the application interface. |

| Attribute Type | (Optional) Specifies the attribute that this tag measures. This is used to group tags that measure the same attribute.<br>Note that you must specify an attribute type if you want to display the tag value in some application interfaces such as the Web Portal. If there is no appropriate type to choose, use the *User Display* type. |
| Format | (Optional) Display format for a numeric tag. Takes the form X.Y where:<br>- X is the number of significant digits to display before the decimal point
- Y is the number of significant digits to display after the decimal point |
| Minimum Value | (Optional) Default minimum value to use in trending diagrams, and to restrict the values that can be sent to the tag as a setpoint. |
| Maximum Value | (Optional) Default maximum value to use in trending diagrams, and to restrict the values that can be sent to the tag as a setpoint. |
| Display | (Optional) Specifies whether the tag can be displayed in the application interfaces, such as SCADA Web. |
| Setpoint | (Optional) Specifies whether the tag value represents a setpoint. If a tag is a setpoint, you can enter tag values in SCADAConnect screens. |
| Unit | (Optional) Unit of measurement to use for this tag data |
| Caption | Specifies a set of captions that can be used to display values for the tag in application screens. |
| Sequence | (Optional) Controls the order in which tags are displayed on application screens. |

**Step 6**

On the Event tab, set the **Broadcast Events > Change Amount**. This field controls how often the tag value is updated in the application displays by setting a threshold value below which no update will occur. This value is usually set to zero so that the display is always up-to-date.
