Comm types that depend on order start or stop times are sent to customers automatically before orders start or stop. You can configure the notice period for each of these communications types.

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ Notice periods apply to all customers. You cannot configure a customer specific notice period.

**Step 1**

In the [Objects module](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SMNC/pages/2000979029) click **Find Objects** to search for Comm Types.

**Step 2**

In the Find Objects screen, choose *Customer Communication Type* in the **Type** field and click **Find**.

**Step 3**

Select the comm type that you want to change and open the **Attributes** tab.

**Step 4**

Double-click on the *Notice Period* attribute and enter the following details:

| **Field** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Effective | Date and time from which this notice period will be effective |
| Value | Time in seconds before the event (the order start or stop) that the message will be sent. |

> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ The alert is triggered if the order will begin (or end) between:
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ * (Now + Notice Period)* and (*Now + Poll Period + Notice Period)*
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ That is, it checks to see if the alert will be triggered before the next time that the comm type runs (the *[Poll Period](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CFGNC/pages/edit-v2/2018672670#How-often-does-a-Comm-Type-run%3F)* attribute value)
