These parameters control the way that the system handles meter readings, particularly anomalous meter readings:

| **Parameter** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Meter Read Variation Ranges | These parameters allow you to set different tolerance limits for the differences between metered usage and estimated usage in the [Meter Reading Entry Module](https://support.rubiconwater.com/help/dms/content/topics/modules/meterreadingentry/land_meterreadingmodule.htm), [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MCN](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/MCN) and [https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SC](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SC). Meter readings whose metered usage differs from the estimated usage by more than the specified tolerance are flagged as needing special attention.
The Meter Read Variation Ranges parameter creates the ranges of metered water usage for which you can apply different variation limits, Specify the start value of each range and separate ranges with commas. The parameter can apply to the whole system or to individual objects (such as planning groups or areas).
**Example:**
If the value of the parameter is:
0, 2.1, 10.1, 20.1
This sets up four ranges of 0 - 2 ML, 2.1 - 10 ML, 10.1 - 20 ML and 20.1 ML and above |
| Meter Read Variation limits | Specifies the allowable variation limits that apply to the ranges set up in the Meter Read Variation Ranges parameter (where 1 is 100% variance).
**Example:**
If the value of the parameter is:
0.5, 0.25, 0.2, 0.1
This sets up tolerances of 50%, 25%, 20% and 10% for the four ranges specified in the ranges parameter. |
| Meter Read Variation No Flow limit | Sets a maximum metered usage that can be recorded where there are no orders (and thus no estimated usage) for the outlet. |
| Meter Reading Usage Threshold | Sets a lower limit for recording meter readings. If the reading is lower than the threshold, it is not recorded in the meter reading history or in usage reports. This may be used to suppress readings caused by meter creep.
Where the computed metered usage is less than the threshold usage for a site which has had no delivery since last reading, then the site will not be marked out of tolerance and the metered usage for the new reading time will be set to 0.
The parameter is set on an object type (for example system, group/area, outlet type). |
| Default Estimated Meter Reading Reason Type | Sets the default reason type for estimated meter readings when entering readings in SiteConnect, MeterConnect, or CustomerConnect.
> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ This also sets the default for normal readings that are neither estimated nor out-of-range and for which entering a reason is optional.
The parameter takes the value of the reason type ID from the REASON_TYPE table in your database. If no value is provided, there will be no default reason type. |
| Default Meter Reading Adjustment Reason Type | Sets the default reason type for out-of-range meter readings when entering readings in SiteConnect, MeterConnect, or CustomerConnect.
The parameter takes the value of the reason type ID from the REASON_TYPE table in your database. If no value is provided, there will be no default reason type. |
| Refer meter readings to planner when allocation exceeded | Specifies whether meter readings are referred to a Planner if the reading exceeds the user’s allocation.
> ℹ️ **Note**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ This is independent of the **Bypass Meter Variance Checks **attribute which specifies whether readings that are out of the expected range are referred to the Planner.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ For example, you could disable variance checking for unplanned outlets but still enable referral of readings that exceed the allocation. |
| Meter data shortening method | Specifies whether meter reading data should be rounded or truncated when displaying readings and usage calculated from readings. This is set to *Rounded* by default. The existing parameter, **Meter reading decimal places** is used to determine the number of decimal places displayed. |
