You can create your own attribute types and apply them to objects. Use these to display information on screens, or in custom reports.

To create an attribute:

**Step 1**

Click **Attribute Types** to open the Attribute Types module.

**Step 2**

Click **Add** to create a new attribute type and enter the following details

| **Property** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Description | This is for your use, to record information about the attribute. |
| Name | This is the label used for the attribute in the interface. |
| Data type | Specify the data type. See <u>[Specifying Data Type for an Attribute](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CFGNC/pages/2002190463)</u> for more details of available data types. |
| Units | Choose the unit for this attribute. This is used as a label on forms, but has no effect on the attribute value. |
| Precision | Specify the number of decimal places allowed for a floating point attribute in the form of a format string. For example enter 1.5 to display five decimal points. |
| System Required | Do not make any changes to the **System Required** checkbox. |
| Enumerated Data | Select this checkbox if you want the attribute to look up its values from a list. You can add values to the list when you have completed this task. |
| Display | Select to allow the attribute to show up in application screens and drop down lists. |
| History Data | Select to store a record of any changes to the attribute value. |
| Enterable | Select to allow users to make changes to the attribute value. Leave clear if the attribute value will be automatically set by the system. |

**Step 3**

Click **Save** to save your changes.
