There are three different charge types:

| **Charge Type** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Fixed | A fixed amount applied to all invoices to which this charge applies. For example, a standard fee for a service.
This charge type is typically used for charges that will be applied to all customers where the amount charged will be the same. |
| Calculated | An amount calculated from information stored in the database.
For example:
- A charge for water usage, calculated from meter readings
- A charge per pipe, calculated from a number of pipes for the property
This charge type is typically used for charges that can apply to all customers, but where the amount charged will vary. |
| Variable | A fixed amount that is multiplied by a variable quantity. For example, a charge for purchase of a specified number of services.
This charge type is typically used for special charges or manually added sales that are applied to individual accounts, because the quantity charged must be specified when the charge is applied.
See
- [Adding a Special Charge to an Account](https://rubiconwater.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/BNC/pages/1990459393)
